Self-aspirated fermenters and universal fermenters share similar structures but differ in their agitator design and air intake mechanism. Universal fermenters are widely used in fermentation plants due to their versatility, featuring both mechanical agitation and compressed air systems.
In self-aspirated fermenters, the agitator includes a central intake pipe connected to the main shaft. As the impeller rotates, it creates a vacuum that draws air from outside the tank through the central intake. The air mixes with the fermentation liquid and is then dispersed toward the tank walls by guide impellers and baffles, ensuring even distribution. The shaft seal at the end of the intake pipe minimizes air leakage, enhancing efficiency.
